Chapter 8 - Footnotes

These terms denote both body parts and illnesses. Illnesses in Cuyo Cuyo are often classified by the part of the body in which they are located, rather than by symptoms.

Another type of pulmón has respiratory symptoms.

Madre is also short for madre onqoy (Qu., womb sickness). It is sometimes called matríz, or enfermedad de la matríz, a direct Spanish translation.

Defined as six weeks after giving birth.

Also called madre sopla or wayra in Quechua.

This is different from the word "cancer" in English. Cáncer in Cuyo Cuyo refers primarily to the "calor" of abdominal pain and to skin rashes. It is thought to be a complication of untreated sobreparto.
