The 2007 UC Davis Field School will split time between
2 diverse areas of California. The first 4 weeks will be spent in
Owens Valley, California, located on the eastern side of the Sierra
Nevada Mountains. Owens Valley has a rich history in archaeological
and anthropological research and continues to be a prime area for
investigations into societal development and hunter-gatherer studies.
For the last 2 weeks of the field season, the crew
will move to the Southern Humboldt County coast in northwestern
California. During this time we will complete the excavation of
a well-stratified shell midden deposit at Punta Gorda Rockshelter.
The site is unique in its preservation and in having over 3 meters
of bone and shell deposit which appear to have been laid down in
less than 100 years.
Sorry, we are no longer accepting
applications for the 2007 field season.

from visiting professors.

Mouth of the Mattole River, Humboldt County, CA
