On
May 13th, 2006. CARD hosted an archaeology open house in celebration
of California Archaeology Month. The event was designed to showcase
the research of UC Davis archaeologists and generate public interest
in archaeology.

activity using an Atlatl, testing mano
and metate vs. mortar and pestle technology for grinding seeds,
a basketweaving demonstration, a small
sandbox excavation for children, an
activity on the evolution of bipedalism,
a chance for people to measure
their cranial capacity, hands on teaching of coiled
pottery techniques and flintknapping,
a slide show of UC Davis field work
from the summers of 2003-5 and a display of zooarchaeological
specimens.
The
event was attended by over 100 participants including local boy
scout and girl scout troops. People traveled from all over the
sacramento area to participate. The staff included volunteers
